Since founding Digital Audio Post, Inc. in 1995, Michael Davis has developed DAP into one of the most respected audio post facilities in the Southeast for sound design, live concert mix to picture, ADR, and 5.1 mixing for television, film and music.
Michael began multiple careers as audio engineer and musician in 1977 while attending Auburn University as a Music Theory/Composition Major. As an audio engineer for PBS, built one of the first multi-track audio post facilities in Alabama in 1979, and served numerous projects as an audio mixer and post-production supervisor for award-winning shows and series.
Davis moved to Nashville in January 1987. Later that year, he began as a pianist with Vince Gill, and went on to tour with Steve Wariner, Judy Rodman, and Ricky Van Shelton. In 1989 Michael joined Dolly Parton's Mighty Fine Band and toured as keyboardist and sound designer until 1993. He has since contined to work for Dolly in a variety of capacities.
During this period he also had success as a composer of television music in a variety of venues including PBS and CBS, and worked as a video editor at Elite Post of Nashville.
In 1996 he joined TNN’s Prime Time Country Staff Band and served as keyboardist for the three-year duration of the show.
Digital Audio Post, Inc. represents the convergence of those multiple career paths into a unified company. Michael's music performance background brings a unique perspective to music remix for television, film and DVD for a wide variety of artists and genres including Keith Urban, Gary Allan, Olivia Newton John, Bobby Jones, Donald Lawrence, Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Destiny's Child, Martina McBride, Wyclef Jean, Robert Earl Keen, Burt Bacharach, Kenny Rogers, The Chieftains, Herb Alpert, Tim McGraw, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs, Shania Twain , .38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Loretta Lynn, Lawrence Welk, Salvadore, Randy Travis, Nicole Mullin, Smokie Norful, LaShun Pace, and others.
As a post audio facility, DAP projects include audio supervision and mix for “Our Country” released in IMAX in 2003, sound design for the current Kenny Chesney Tour, as well as shows for PBS, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, sound design for the 25th Anniversary Elvis Presley concert, and music videos for Cledus T Judd, Steve Azar, Sixwire and 2002 CMA Video of the Year for Brad Paisley, and many others.
As an ADR facility, DAP has provided audio for TV and film including "Blades of Glory", "The Departed", “Desperate Housewives”, “Big Fish”, 'Toy Story 2’, 'Eye of the Beholder', 'Castaway', “Behind Enemy Lines”, “The Wire”, “Twisted” and others.
As audio post facility for CMT's "Summerfest Concert Series", "CMT Comedy Stages", "Inside Fame", “100 Greatest” , “Controversy”, “Myths”, and “Making of the Video” series, sound designer for 'Top 20 Countdown’, as well as composing several of CMT's show themes, DAP’s work continues to strive to provide audio excellence to the country music community.
As a composer and musician, his music is also currently in use for TV shows including Baywatch, Access Hollywood, The Dr. Phil Show, NBA on ABC, "Hooking Up" on ABC, and the 700 club. Michael continues to provide television music for OneMusic/FirstCom, and has several national commercials currently airing including Zales Jewelers and Honda. Recent album projects include Chely Wright, Megadeth and a live album for Dolly released in Europe.
Michael temporarily returns to live performance for the opportunity to join Dolly as a keyboardist and programmer., including the 2005 "The Vintage Tour" and her World Tour 2007, performing 25 dates across Europe. He will join her again in 2008 for her US and European tours.
Davis is a 2002 Alumni of Leadership Music, a member of the Nashville Section of the Audio Engineering Society, a voting member of NARAS, and is a vested member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 257.
